A new overwater accommodation style to be called The Captain Bligh Lagoon Resort and Spa is to be developed in Aitutaki Cook Islands. Currently Aitutaki Lagoon has around 4 resorts, plus approximately 25 additional accommodation options ranging from self-catering villas and beach houses to budget huts, guest houses and B&B. The proposed new resort will have over half its accommodation suites sited over the calm turquoise blue waters of the Aitutaki Lagoon. It will also offer a unique small island retreat for those seeking that greater amount of privacy and luxury. The Captain Bligh will offer the comforts of a 5-star fine-dining restaurant, conference facilities and bar. Its location and unique accommodation design will provide travellers with a unique holiday experience and a springboard to explore the island of Aitutaki as well as enjoy lagoon cruises.

Easier access to Aitutaki Cook Islands

At the beginning of April 2007, Air New Zealand and Air Rarotonga signed a code-share agreement for the beautiful atoll destination of Aitutaki. The agreement comes into effect in May. Under the new arrangement, air travel to and from Aitutaki Lagoon will be much easier, benefiting agents and independent travellers alike. There are four flights a day to the lagoon and scheduling will mean that passengers arriving or departing for Los Angeles or New Zealand will experience good connections.
